Mercy Corps Northwest VISTA Team

The Mercy Corps Northwest VISTA Team (MCNW VT) is a group of AmeriCorps VISTAs coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. We work in Oregonian communities to end poverty through capacity building and innovation. Our team is part of a nationwide program sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency, that engages over 5,000 people in service with VISTA every year.

We tackle poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations throughout Oregon. Our projects address intergenerational cycles of need. Mercy Corps NW VISTAs expand economic opportunities and increase food security in low income communities. In the past, VISTAs have developed healthier food boxes, created training opportunities for low income entrepreneurs, designed financial wellness curricula, and much more.

MCNW VISTA members serve at a diverse group of nonprofits throughout Oregon. Our VISTAs oversee projects that build the long-term capacity of their communities through financial education, job skills training, microenterprise, financial asset development, food security, and nutrition education.  They perform indirect service, often working behind the scenes on projects such as volunteer recruitment, program development, and grant writing. While we are based in Portland our VISTA host sites are located throughout the state.
